Al-Farouq Aminu

While he wouldn’t stretch the court or impress anyone with his scoring ability, Aminu would become an effective defensive weapon for Dallas head coach Rick Carlisle to employ. Aminu is 6’9”, 215-pound small forward who has the ability to cover shooting guards, small forwards, and power forwards. Sound like anyone that has played in Dallas recently?

The importance of finding a defensive stalwart grows as it becomes apparent that Shawn Marion has likely played his last game in Dallas Mavericks uniform. The Mavericks are counting heavily on Tyson Chandler to fix virtually every defensive issue that plagued the Mavericks last season.

While Chandler is an upgrade over Samuel Dalembert, even he cannot simultaneously cover for five positions on the court. Aminu’s defense could be critical against Western Conference foes Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden and Manu Ginobili. Aminu averaged 7.2 points and 6.2 rebounds for the New Orleans Pelicans in 2013-14.
