NBA Free Agency 2014: Best Potential Landing Spots for Eric Bledsoe
4. Sacramento Kings
As previously alluded to, the Sacramento Kings dealt point guard Isaiah Thomas go to the Phoenix Suns. It was a smart move for the Suns, but it left something of a void at a critical position for the Kings.
Why not give DeMarcus Cousins his former University of Kentucky teammate?
Eric Bledsoe would immediately improve the Kings’ defense, which ranked 24th in opponent points per game. He’d also play under a head coach, Mike Malone, who was the X and O’s guru who crafted the Golden State Warriors offense that Stephen Curry thrives in.
There aren’t many situations better for Bledsoe than one like this.
Working alongside Cousins would give Bledsoe a genuine star to work the low-high attack with. He’d also have a pair of high-caliber shooters in Ben McLemore and Nik Stauskas, as well as a veteran scorer to distribute to in Rudy Gay.
Darren Collison is a quality point guard, but there’s reason to believe he’s more of a sixth man. Bledsoe, meanwhile, can be the lockdown defender that Sacramento needs, all the while providing a dynamic offensive presence.
There are financial hurdles involved here. It would likely require a third team in a trade to help Phoenix and Sacramento get it done.
If it were to be executed, Bledsoe would be a wonderful fit.
