Leadership

The Pistons were a mess last year. Not only were they disorganized, indisciplined and lacking structure on the court, but when adversity struck they did very little positive to try and rally against it.

Consider the lead up to the firing of Maurice Cheeks, when there very public disagreements between players and coaching staff on the Detroit bench.

Butler is the type of guy who has enough experience, and respect from teammates, that he can quickly defuse and stomp out situations like that one. Butler will act as the perfect mentor to the Pistons young core.

If you need proof of Butler’s leadership, look no further than MVP Kevin Durant. In Durant’s famously emotional acceptance speech, Butler was singled out for the impact he’d had on the MVP within just a few months of the pair playing together.
