Chicago Bulls: Eastern Conference Favorites?
3. Nikola Mirotic Time
The Bulls didn’t get the stretch-4 they wanted in Melo, but European star Nikola Mirotic announced on Twitter that he’d finally be joining Chicago next season. The Bulls have agreed to sign him to a three-year, $17 million deal, and Chicago will certainly enjoy the perimeter shooting he brings to the team. Mirotic shot 46 percent from three-point range this season for Real Madrid and at 6’10”, he’ll prove to be a tough defensive assignment for his ability to spread the floor.
Chicago will pay a little extra for Mirotic since he’s no longer eligible for a rookie contract, but if he turns out to be the extra dimension Chicago’s offense needs, he’ll be well worth it at the mid-level exception. This makes it extremely likely the Bulls will amnesty Boozer before the July 16 deadline and by doing so, wipe out his $17 million from the Bulls’ salary cap situation. Plus, our next guy could serve as a pretty nice mentor until Mirotic is ready to step up.
