If the Kings were to land Rondo, they would start to look like an incredibly appealing prospect for other players around the NBA. One particular player who, if reports are to be believed, Sacramento might want to grab the attention of is Detroit’s Josh Smith.

Before the draft, Marc Stein of ESPN reported that the Kings and Pistons were in talks on a deal to trade Derrick Williams and Jason Thompson for Smith. Although the deal never materialized, if Sacramento can acquire Rondo, don’t be surprised to see the Kings’ interest revived.

Rondo and Smith are close friends, having been high school teammates at Oak Hill. The pair have long held ambitions of playing together in the NBA, and although it would be out of their hands, this may be an opportunity for those stars to align.
