As outstanding as Isaiah Thomas has been for the Kings, his game may not be best suited to complementing the strengths of some of his teammates in Sacramento. Thomas is a scoring point guard who makes the most of his skills, but the Kings could be better served by shifting the scoring load elsewhere.

Thomas attempted more than 15 shots per game last season, and did so while having the lowest percentage of the team’s three players who averaged 20-plus points a night. The other two men, Rudy Gay and DeMarcus Cousins, are much more natural scoring options.

Gay is a true scorer who looks to get a bucket every time the ball is in his hands, while Cousins is developing into of the league’s most dominant scoring centers.

If Rondo was to come to Sacramento, his pass-first instincts could help make the Kings a more efficient team. In his past five seasons, Rondo has averaged more than 9.5 assists per game, so he would have no issue setting up teammates.

On top of that, if Rondo is healthy and engaged, there aren’t many more formidable defensive point guards in the NBA.
