LOS ANGELES LAKERS

It’s not much injury insurance to bring in another point guard with a history of injuries to back up Steve Nash, but Nelson is a quality guard who could provide a lot more quality minutes than Kendall Marshall in clutch moments. Marshall is a bargain and did average 8.8 assists per game during the 2013-14 campaign, but many of those were racked up while playing horrific defense and while losing a ton of games.

At the very least, Nelson brings the ability to pass and the ability to get his own offense as opposed to being so one-dimensional. If the Lakers are able to make some kind of score in free agency (aside from Nelson), it stands to reason that Jameer’s game would mesh well with a number of different kinds of players. If they need his offense, he can go into scoring mode. If they have plenty of scorers, he can go into facilitating mode.
