Atlanta Hawks: Best Draft Prospects By Position
By Adam McGee
Power Forward
15th Pick – Adreian Payne
Payne is an incredibly intriguing prospect, who’s physical shape could end up startlingly similar to Al Horford. Payne has a 7’4″ wingspan making him a dynamic presence on both ends of the floor. Payne is an excellent rebounder, who can dominate in the paint, as well as being able to step away and space the floor as a stretch-four thanks to his three-point shooting.
Payne’s length means he has potential to become a shot blocker, and if he can improve his focus, there’s no reason why the 23-year-old can’t become an elite defender. The biggest concern with Payne will be his ability to keep pace in the NBA, as a pre-existing breathing condition could hold him back.
Alternative options include: Clint Capela, Dario Saric
43rd Pick – Khem Birch
If the Hawks want to take a raw power forward prospect with good potential, Birch could be a good fit in the second round. Although he currently offers very little offensively, Birch is an excellent athlete, who can dominate as a rebounder and a shot blocker.
Alternative options include: Dwight Powell, Cristiano Felicio
