Chicago needs scoring. It’s no secret. Without Derrick Rose running the offense, while the Bulls are still a very good team, they do not have that same offensive firepower as they do when Rose is healthy and on the floor. They ranked last in points per game this past season yet still managed to get the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Their defense is not the issue, it’s the lack of points they puts up.

Obviously, the Bulls are looking to make a splash by signing Carmelo Anthony, which would immediately give them a scoring punch they lack without Rose. However, that doesn’t mean Chicago isn’t looking to make a splash in the draft as well.

Aside from Love trade talks, the Bulls have been looking to move their two first round picks for either established players or roll them into one pick higher in the draft. Right now, it looks like the Sacramento Kings may be the trade partner they’ve been looking for.

Sacramento owns the eighth pick in the draft on Thursday, right in the middle of where the top tier prospects finish coming off the board. Chicago owns the 16th and 19th picks in the draft.

A player could be involved, but this could also just be a pick for picks trade, straight up. With that eighth pick, Chicago would likely go with Doug McDermott, Gary Harris or Nik Stauskas, all three of whom are pure shooters and can bring points off the bench immediately for the Bulls.

There’s also been talks between Chicago and the Orlando Magic for Aaron Afflalo, who’s coming off the best season of his career. The Bulls want to make a move and become a championship contender, finally taking down the Miami Heat in the process.

That will require them to do something Miami hasn’t done yet: use their assets to bring in cheaper, established players.

They have the tools to get a deal done, it’s just a matter of which trade they make.
