Adreian Payne, PF, Michigan State

Payne was someone I suggested earlier this month as a backup (or potential replacement) to Kevin Love.

The big guy from Michigan State showed serious improvement last season, and has the offensive game to ease the impact of a possible jettison of the face of the franchise. He also boasts defensive potential and the athleticism to make him a serious sleeper candidate if the Timberwolves could grab him where they are currently picking in the draft.

In terms of how he fits on the roster, Payne could easily step in as Kevin Love’s backup for a season, or start in his place if he is traded. His ability to hit jumpers will help him in the new offense, and he has the potential to make an impact on the defensive end. In either role (starter or backup) Payne should be an asset to Minnesota if he is available.
