No matter your opinion on ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, we wouldn’t be doing our jobs if we didn’t break down every offseason rumor worth talking about. And according to Smith, the Golden State Warriors could be interested in adding Tyson Chandler to their roster. In 2011, the Dubs were outbid by the New York Knicks to sign Chandler as a free agent and Smith believes the Dubs haven’t lost interest in him since then.

The potential trade that’s being tossed around is David Lee and Harrison Barnes for Chandler. That would give the Warriors a formidable frontcourt tandem of Andrew Bogut and Chandler, two players who are incredibly gifted defensively but have suffered from frequent injuries in the last few seasons.

Personally, this speculative rumor sounds exactly like what it is: a rumor, and nothing more. Including Lee and Barnes in a Kevin Love trade is one thing, but trading them for Chandler doesn’t really move the needle for the Dubs and it certainly doesn’t give Golden State the stretch-4 they’re looking for. Bringing Lee back to New York is a nice idea, but his current contract would likely scare Phil Jackson away.
