UPDATE: Kevin Love trade talks with the Warriors are officially dead. Here’s the story.

Of course, we can’t go 24 hours talking about the Golden State Warriors without mentioning Kevin Love’s name and the latest news on that front. Last week, it was reported the Warriors had finally changed their off-limits position on Klay Thompson, whom the Minnesota Timberwolves were interested in acquiring in a potential Love trade. Only a few days later, ESPN reported trade talks had hit a road block because the organization was split on including Thompson in potential trade talks.

I’ve covered how Thompson needs to be expendable in a potential Love deal enough already, but ESPN’s Nick Borges reported an additional little nugget of information: Not only are the Warriors not interested in trading Thompson, but they’re also not high on the idea of acquiring Kevin Martin in a Love trade. With three years and $22 million left on his contract, Martin’s not exactly the most appealing complementary piece in a Kevin Love deal.

But according to Tim Kawakami of the San Jose Mercury News, that’s not the only thing that makes Martin so unappealing to the Dubs. In fact, there are quite a few things that make him unappealing. According to Kawakami, the Warriors simply don’t think Martin is any good because his defense is terrible and all he can do on offense is score without bringing much else to the table. If this is true, the Dubs will have some major wrinkles to iron out in trade talks over the next few days before the 2014 NBA Draft on Thursday.
