2. Rodney White

Although there are more famous Pistons draft busts (as you’ll see on the next page), Joe Dumars decision to draft Rodney White was up there with his worst. White was taken with the ninth pick of the 2001 draft, in spite of the fact he seemed to be a player that coach Rick Carlisle never really wanted.

Having been taken ahead of franchise changers like Joe Johnson, Zach Randolph and Tony Parker, White only played 129 minutes in his rookie season with the Pistons. Carlisle clearly felt there was no place for White in his team, and following his first season he was traded to Denver.

After just five seasons in the NBA, White was forced to look overseas to find teams interested in taking him. With some of the other guys who were left on the board when he was selected, White’s pick, and the speed at which he was moved on, is one of the biggest wastes in Pistons draft history.
