Brandon Knight is a good, reliable NBA player. The problem with Knight was he was supposed to be the Detroit Pistons’ point guard for long into the future, yet after only two seasons the franchise decided to move in a different direction.

Knight was drafted with the eighth pick of the 2011, ahead of a number of guys who to date have had considerably more successful NBA careers. Kemba Walker went one pick later as a point guard, while other guys like Klay Thompson and Kawhi Leonard were also still on the board.

Knight is an example of a guy who the Pistons might have quit on too soon though. In his first season in Milwaukee, Knight set career highs with his per game averages in points, rebounds, assists, steals and field goal percentage, meaning there’s still room for Knight to develop.
