Something that’s been unofficial since last October is finally official: Carmelo Anthony will opt out of his contract with the New York Knicks and test free agency this summer. Despite Phil Jackson and the rest of the Big Apple hoping Melo would opt in and be patient with his new front office, it appears Anthony may have other plans.

But what exactly are those plans? Or more specifically, where are those plans going to take him this summer? With a number of suitors reportedly interested in adding Melo’s elite scoring ability, this misunderstood superstar will have plenty of options in his quest to win a championship and silence all the “overrated” talk.

After averaging 27.4 points and 8.1 rebounds per game this season, there’s no question a number of teams will be making pitches to try and sign him as the second biggest free agent of 2014. Here’s a look at the best six potential destinations for Carmelo Anthony, along with why they’d work and why they wouldn’t.
