Phoenix Suns: Options With The No. 27 Pick
Shabazz Napier (Connecticut):
18 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 4.9 APG, 1.8 SPG, 42.9 FG%, 40.5 3P%, 25.5 PER
As far as NBA-ready point guards with tons of experience go, Napier is about as good as it gets, especially since he could still be available at No. 27 (provided the Miami Heat pass on him at No. 26). He’s played well in his pro workouts thus far, his speed is exceptional and there’s something to be said for that Kemba Walker sort of way he provided leadership and clutch scoring to lead his team to the NCAA title.
Napier is a talented ball handler, a very good 3-point shooter and a craft defender when it comes to coming up with steals. His size will likely limit him from being drafted higher or ever becoming a superstar, but as a backup point guard? Napier has the tools to be an excellent secondary point guard to give Goran Dragic and/or Eric Bledsoe a breather, most especially because of the “veteran” perception he exudes. If Napier is still available here, cashing in on him would provide Phoenix with some much-needed backcourt depth.
