The German showed excellent defensive instincts, as was expected. Although his defensive rating doesn’t reflect it, in part due to his own offensive carelessness, on the defensive end Schroder was a nightmare for his opposition.

From his very first game in the NBA, Schroder’s enthusiasm and energy really stood out. The 20-year-old runs his own front court press on every defensive possession, pressuring his man from one end of the court to the other. This isn’t going to make him a very popular figure among players around the league, but will earn him a lot of respect with his own teammates and coach.

Schroder’s steal numbers were lower than expected this season, only averaging one per 36 minutes, but he has the physical tools and fundamentals that should see that improve dramatically in the future.
