Oklahoma City Thunder: 2013-14 Grades—Nick Collison
By Phil Watson
Weaknesses
Collison’s shooting range drops off at about 16 feet. As the shot chart below indicates, he took some corner 3s, but wasn’t very efficient, hitting 2-of-6 from the right corner and just 1-of-9 from the left.
And if you move him off the left side of the floor, he doesn’t shoot the ball very well—a combined 6-for-18. The 18 attempts out of 241 shots indicates that Collison knows he doesn’t shoot the ball very well on the right side, either, and he shows some veteran savvy there by trying not to force things that he doesn’t do well.
While Collison’s defensive numbers look pretty solid—a defensive rating of 99.1 (points allowed per 100 possessions)—he’s slow and not that athletic, which means some of the league’s better power forward can absolutely abuse him at the defensive end. The good news is that Collison’s spot with the second unit minimizes that type of mismatch for the most part.
