It’s always a risk drafting international prospects. Sometimes the guys don’t come over, sometimes they do, and just never settle in America. Much like there is with American players though, among all the guys who don’t make it to be NBA players, there are those who do.

You need look no further than the current NBA finalists the San Antonio Spurs, who have a roster including eight guys born outside of the U.S., to see the rewards that can be reaped by going international in the draft. The fear of the unknown that many GMs seem to experience can allow high quality foreign guys to go much lower than expected.

The potential for a steal with this second round pick is something that the Pistons are definitely holding out hope for. If Van Gundy can get some form of commitment from Bogdanovic, his fit with the Pistons looks good, and I’d see no reason for them not to draft him if he was available at the 38th pick.
