Playmaking Instincts

Seeing as no games have been played with him at the helm, we’re still in the early stages of hypothesizing about how Stan Van Gundy will view things in Detroit. One of the more intriguing questions that seems to be coming up is whether Brandon Jennings can earn Van Gundy’s trust.

If this does prove to be a problem, Bogdanovic would be the type of guy capable of taking on some ball-handling/playmaking responsibilities from the off-guard spot. Bogdanovic has a great eye for a pass and is undoubtedly creative, with his playmaking being both one of his great positives and weaknesses.

Where Bogdanovic can create for himself and his teammates with a variety of moves, in a way reminiscent of a young Manu Ginobili (trust me, the play from 5:29 – 5:37 in Draft Express’ excellent scouting report above, backs this up), at the same time his decision making needs a lot of work. Bogdanovic will turn the ball over, not because he can’t cope with being pressured, or gets trapped easily, but instead because he generally looks for the home run pass instead of the smart one.
