Dennis Rodman

Perhaps, the ultimate example of what’s possible in the second round is Dennis Rodman. Taken with the 27th pick of the 1986 draft, Rodman went on to have career that would see him inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, while his No. 10 hangs from the rafters of The Palace of Auburn Hills.

Rodman’s unpredictable nature may not have helped his draft stock, but it meant a guy who is in the conversation for best defender of his generation fell to Detroit.

With a solid core already building, Rodman was arguably what helped to push that Pistons group over the edge. His infectious attitude and energy fit in with the “Bad Boys” philosophy, and his work on the boards and the defensive end made the team an even more formidable force.

In his seven seasons with the Pistons, Rodman helped to deliver two championships, which isn’t a bad return for a second rounder.
