Bogdan Bogdanovic, Serbia, 6-6, 220lbs, 22-years old in August

2013-14 Stat Line: (10 EuroLeague games and 13 Adriatic League games) 14.3 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 40% three-point field goals, 42% two-point field goals, 73.4% free throws, 2.5 turnovers

Strengths:

Early points already for having the greatest name in the draft class. He has quick hands and finds the ball defensively, resulting in takeaways for Bogdan. He has very solid footwork on the defensive end, stays in front of his man and doesn’t get easily tripped up. He’s a great three-point shooter as well and can get shots up over tallish defenders. He just has so much confidence in his shot, he’s athletic and he has good passing skills.

Weaknesses:

He has trouble keeping the ball away from the defense. Sometimes he gets a little too comfortable on the court and just throws the ball away. He’s usually good with the ball in his hands but also tries to get too fancy with it at times, making poor decisions with the ball which contributes to the turnovers. He shoots about the same percent from three as he does inside the arc, which is troubling. He doesn’t like contact or drawing fouls, and only attempts about three per game. His shot looks awkward and uncomfortable once he’s inside the arc.

Potential Landing Spot:

Bogdan Bogdanovic has been pegged as a second round pick and has been considered to be undrafted in some mocks. There’s a lot of players in this year’s class that could steal a spot from him and that could be because some fear he won’t come over to the NBA. At 22, there’s a small window of opportunity for Bogdanovic in the NBA and if he stays overseas even though he’s drafted, that could mean a pick is wasted on a player that never even enters the country to play for you.

Team That Makes Sense:

Philadelphia 76ers: Here’s that team with seven total picks again. With five second round picks, Philadelphia can afford to take a gamble with Bogdanovic. If he comes over then they have a shooter who’s capable of being a good defender but makes some bonehead mistakes. If he stays overseas, then it’s one pick of seven that won’t be on your team, where the odds are good for that anyway.

Conclusion:

Bogdan Bogdanovic is going to be a mystery pick. He may end up being left off draft boards in fear that he won’t play for the team that drafts him. If he does play, there’s a lot of work to be done to his overall game before he can be an efficient, productive player. Whether or not he gets drafted remains to be seen, though, as it is merely speculation as to where he ends up in the draft pool.
