Overall Success

Bower has never won a title, or even built a team that got to a conference finals. That doesn’t mean he has been unsuccessful though. When the Hornets relocated to New Orleans, in many ways it was like the franchise was starting over.

Considering that, Bower did an excellent job at taking a team from the ground, up to genuine relevance under his stewardship. In the 2007-08 season, the Hornets were genuine contenders. New Orleans finished second in the West, and only lost to the San Antonio Spurs in seven games in the conference semifinals.

If we take stock of the position the Detroit Pistons currently find themselves in, both Bower and Van Gundy have a lot of work on their hands. The fact that both men are sensible, basketball-minded men, with proven pedigree should be of great encouragement to Pistons fans though.
