Detroit Pistons: Jeff Bower Appointed As General Manager
By Adam McGee
It seems a long time since Joe Dumars stepped down as the general manager of the Detroit Pistons. Although in reality it’s actually been less than two months, the Pistons now have a brand new front office team in place. With the addition of Jeff Bower as general manager, the Pistons new organizational structure is now complete.
Dumars had success in the role, along with multiple abject failures, but when he was appointed as general manager he had no real experience. Sure, he had been a great player for the franchise, but the business side, and team construction were all very much new to him. This time around, Pistons owner Tom Gores has opted to go for men who are more experienced at making basketball decisions.
Stan Van Gundy will run the show, as both president of basketball operations and head coach. Van Gundy is widely regarded as one of the most shrewd and knowledgeable men in the NBA, and his coaching resume speaks for itself. Although it’s believed that Van Gundy will have final say on personnel, Bower has been brought aboard in order to help him adjust and make decisions in his new role.
So, with that in mind, who is Jeff Bower, and why has he got Stan Van Gundy’s ear?
