Doug McDermott (Creighton):

Phoenix Suns
Mar 23, 2014; San Antonio, TX, USA; Creighton Bluejays forward Doug McDermott (3) gets a rebound in the first half of a men /

McDermott is one of the greatest college basketball players of all time and although his game probably won’t translate as well to the NBA, his shooting ability gives him some value as a stretch-4 in a worst-case scenario. Dougie Fresh put up superb numbers in his senior season at Creighton, averaging 26.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game while shooting 52.6 percent from the floor and 45 percent from three-point territory. His numbers at the draft combine also revealed he’s a better athlete than people realize.

McDermott probably won’t be on the board by the time Phoenix is up, but crazier things have happened in the draft (remember Anthony Bennett?) and if he’s still available, the Suns should definitely pull the trigger. Will Doug McDermott be the second coming of Larry Bird? Probably not. But he’s a quality scorer with a high basketball IQ who can shoot, and that’s the exact kind of player that could thrive getting wide open looks out of pick and pops with Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe.
