As far back as preseason, Jenkins was struggling to stay healthy. What seemed like constant nagging injuries were limiting his minutes, and preventing him from developing further. What began as muscle spasms in his lower back would end up being much more serious though.

After going back and forth on their options for a number of weeks, both Jenkins and the Hawks medical staff decided it would be best for him to have season-ending surgery at the beginning of February. It was far from ideal for a 23-year-old shooter to need back surgery so early in his career, but the undoubted priority for both sides was to fix the problem, so that it hopefully won’t become a long-term issue.

Jenkins is said to be progressing well in rehab, and should be healthy in time for Summer League. Just how significant this injury will be for Jenkins’ career remains to be seen though.
