Atlanta Hawks: Al Horford 2013/14 Season Review
By Adam McGee
Injury
The defining moment of Horford’s season was undoubtedly the injury. A torn pectoral muscle is a freak injury, and a rare occurrence in the NBA, yet this was the second time in three seasons that Horford fell foul of it.
That sounds incredibly alarming, but in fact, Horford’s injury was so bizarre that he tore the left side back in 2012, and the right side this season. After his first injury, in 2012, Horford rushed back, and made a surprise return for Game 7 of a playoff series with the Celtics, where he would eventually miss decisive free throws. Having felt rusty for a quite a while following that return, Horford and the Hawks medical staff made the decision that he would sit for the season, with no exceptions.
Horford’s rehab is said to be going well, and he is on track to be ready for full participation in training camp. When the season comes around again, the eyes of all Hawks fans will be firmly fixed on him though, as they hope and pray that these injuries are behind him.
