Perhaps a surprise feature of Ayon’s play for Hawks fans was his active hands. Ayon has never been renowned for his defensive play, and averaging only 0.5 blocks per game for his career, he is far from a rim protector.

What Ayon can do is strip the ball loose, and he is more than willing to dive on loose balls to secure possession. This season he averaged one steal per game, or 2.1 per 36, which is not a bad return for a 6″10 center.
