OK, so the chances of this happening are very slim, but with Carmelo Anthony available, the Pistons need to at least put themselves in the conversation. Anthony is a franchise changing star, who although it’s rarely spoken about is, in his last two seasons, simultaneously scoring and rebounding at a level he hadn’t done before. This season Melo is averaging 27.4 points, a career high 8.4 rebounds, and shooting a career high 40.2 percent from behind the arc.

The most likely scenario is that Anthony stays in New York, earning the best possible contract. If he did decide to move on, the likes of Chicago, Dallas and Houston would all seem more likely destinations than Detroit. The Pistons have nothing to lose by throwing their hat in the ring though. Who knows, some luck in the draft lottery, and the acquisition of Carmelo Anthony could make the Pistons relevant in a hurry.
