Well, well, well. An all-SEC national championship game. When did college basketball become college football anyway?

If all goes well for the conference and the predictions hold true, the Gators and Wildcats will be doing battle for the fourth time this season, becoming the first duo from the same conference to play for the national title since 1985 when Villanova played the perfect game against Georgetown for the title victory.

Florida is 3-0 against Kentucky this year, winning one game each at home, on the road and at a neutral site. The Gators are very familiar with the Wildcats, as are the Wildcats with the Gators. There’s not a lot of surprises that could happen in this game. No tricks, no secrets and nothing to hide. Just one more game to prove yourself and be the better team. It doesn’t matter that Florida has beaten Kentucky three times already this year. That’s a moot point. What does matter is how you show up on Monday night under the bright lights in Dallas.

In their most recent battle the Gators had a big lead in the second half before letting Kentucky come back and cut the lead to one, but Florida managed to hang on for the SEC Tournament championship. Florida is full of seniors, Kentucky is full of freshmen. Calipari is energetic and outgoing and Billy Donovan is more reserved and quiet. The two programs couldn’t be anymore different which makes for one of the most compelling championship games in years.

Does the experience win out one more time and accomplish incredibly difficult to do (beat a single team four times in one season) or does the maturity of the young seniors finally get their signature moment?

Prediction: Florida 75, Kentucky 73
