Despite having beaten them in the previous meeting of the two sides back in February in Atlanta, the Timberwolves are a matchup nightmare for the Hawks. Generally, undersized as a team, the Hawks find themselves at a significant disadvantage facing up against one of the most formidable and deep front court’s in the NBA.

That would come to light in this game too. With Nikola Pekovic, Kevin Love‘s usual frontcourt mate out injured, rookie Gorgui Dieng stepped up and terrorized the Hawks. Atlanta started with a larger lineup than normal, but it had little effect.

Dieng had 15 points and 15 boards, while Love had 14 and 12, as the Timberwolves size and power wore the Hawks down as the game went on. Having only trailed by seven at the half, Atlanta would eventually lose this one by a margin of 24 points.
