James Young is yet another of the extremely talented freshmen that make up this class. At 6’6″, despite primarily playing at 2 guard, Young has the potential to play a bit of small forward also. At only 18 years of age, Young is one of the youngest players being tipped to get picked in the first round and it shows.
Although an outstanding talent, Young is very much raw. Consistency has been an issue for him at times this year for Kentucky, as the Michigan native has been a streaky presence in Coach Calipari’s team. If a general manager was looking to draft based on overall potential, and greatest upside, Young would undoubtedly figure in their thoughts though.
Young will act as a floor spacer in the NBA thanks to a nice three point shooting touch, while he is also capable of scoring while driving to the rim. Questions remain over his athleticism but with a combination of his age, size and wingspan, they shouldn’t cause any teams to be too perturbed.
