Sacramento Kings Weekly: A Look at Next Year’s Roster
Most Likely Coming Back
Quincy Acy– Acy came over as part of the Rudy Gay trade early in the season. Acy has played with so much energy when he gets minutes, many say he is like Reggie Evans. But the real reason he will be back next season is because of the $915,243 team option he has coming up. Energy guys are always good to have on any team especially at that price.
Who Knows
Rudy Gay- He has a $19 million player option for next season, but there has been talk about him declining the option and signing a long term deal with a team. But at this point really nobody knows what Gay will do. Gay is only 27 years old, and it seems there will be a market for Gay in this upcoming offseason if he does opt out. However, the Kings do not have any indication on what Gay will do at this point, and it is hard to tell if Gay like playing in Sacramento at this point. Therefore, most of the Kings offseason moves will be tied to what Gay does with that player option.
Isaiah Thomas- Thomas is a restricted free agent after this season. This year Thomas has played for just under $900,000 and is averaging 20 points and six assists, needless to say he deserves a raise. The Kings have a big decision to make on Thomas, whether to pay him like their franchise point guard, or let him play somewhere else. During the season the Kings did try and trade Thomas, so it makes you believe they may let him walk and either draft or trade for a point guard. For most of the season the Kings were rumored to be interested in Rajon Rondo, or they could draft either Dante Exum or Tyler Ennis both are considered top 10 picks. With all the offseason decisions the Kings have the Thomas one is the biggest by far. I believe the Kings will let Thomas walk and they will try to find a point guard who is a better passer and defender than Thomas, more than likely they will find their point guard in the draft.
