Daily NBA Fix 3-10-14: Tough Day To Be One Of The NBA’s Elite

The teams got their offenses going in overtime, combining for 30 points in the five-minute session, but the Pelicans preserved the win when Anthony Davis blocked Ty Lawson’s driving layup attempt with a little more than a minute to go in OT. New Orleans forced the overtime when Anthony Morrow knocked down a 15-foot pull up jumper in the lane with one second left in regulation. Davis had a huge game with 32 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots and Tyreke Evans scored 20 points for the Pelicans. Kenneth Faried had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Nuggets, Lawson had 15 points and 12 assists and Aaron Brooks also scored 15 points.
BOSTON CELTICS 118, Detroit Pistons 111
Rajon Rondo had 18 of the Celtics’ season-high 38 assists as Boston won its second straight despite Detroit’s dominance in the paint, where the Pistons outscored the C’s 64-44. Detroit was done in by 16 turnovers and the Celtics’ hot shooting in the third quarter, when Boston hit 8-of-13 from 3-point range. Jeff Green scored 27 points for the Celtics, Kris Humphries had 20 points and 11 rebounds, Kelly Olynyk tossed in 18 points and Jerryd Bayless added 15 points. Josh Smith finished with 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Pistons, Greg Monroe had 22 points and 14 boards, Andre Drummond went for 18 points and 22 rebounds and Will Bynum also scored 18 points.
