Nathan Giese: A lot of people would probably say Wichita State here but I’m going to go with Ohio State. Had they let that game at Wisconsin slip away from them like it looked like they were going to do, the Buckeyes would have only one conference win against a team in the top half of the Big Ten.

Ohio State has only defeated three Top 25 teams all year (at Marquette, Wisconsin and Iowa). The Iowa victory is impressive but the Wisconsin win came when both teams were in dire straits and one of them had to win. I shouldn’t have to explain why the Marquette victory isn’t impressive.

Nothing about the Buckeyes dazzles me. Their offense is inept and can’t even win in their own conference. I don’t see Ohio State getting past the third round of the NCAA Tournament. We’ll call that my early bold prediction.

Maxwell Ogden:  Easily the most underwhelming team in the AP Top 25 is the Texas Longhorns. A 21-7 record is nothing to scoff at, and going 10-5 in the best conference in the country is as impressive a feat as you’ll find.

The truth is, Texas is riding a red-hot streak between January 11 to February 4 that ignores everything that’s happened since.

Texas is going to make noise in March Madness, but it’s just 3-3 since February 8. That includes a 17-point loss at the Kansas State Wildcats and a 31-point exploitation at the Kansas Jayhawks.

Texas has essentially clinched its berth in the Big Dance, but this team has been playing underwhelming basketball this month.

Things won’t get easier for the Longhorns, who travel to play the Oklahoma Sooners on March 1. Rick Barnes’ crew may win out and will contend in the Big 12 Tournament Championship, but going cold in the final month before March Madness is never a good idea.

The Longhorns have some work to do.
