Daily NBA Fix 2-23-14: Mr. Double-Double Goes Triple
By Phil Watson
ATLANTA HAWKS 107, New York Knicks 98
The short-handed Hawks came back from a 17-point deficit to snap an eight-game losing streak. Atlanta was already without Gustavo Ayon before Paul Millsap was held out with a right knee contusion. It was the second night in a row the Knicks lost after holding a double-digit lead in the second half. Mike Scott had a career-high 30 points for the Hawks, Jeff Teague added 28 and DeMarre Carroll also had a career best with 24 points. Carmelo Anthony scored 35 points for New York, Raymond Felton added 16 points and 10 assists and Tyson Chandler logged 10 points and 23 rebounds.
Dallas Mavericks 113, DETROIT PISTONS 102
The stunner of the night is that the Mavericks—one of the weakest rebounding teams in the NBA—had 16 offensive rebounds to just nine for the Pistons, the top offensive rebounding club in the league. Dirk Nowitzki led Dallas with 24 points, Vince Carter tossed in 18 and three Mavs notched double-doubles. Samuel Dalembert had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Monta Ellis finished with 12 points and 13 assists and Shawn Marion had 10 points and 11 boards. Josh Smith scored 32 points for Detroit, while Greg Monroe notched 17 points and 17 rebounds.
