Sacramento Kings Weekly: 3 Trades Kings Should Make
The Week That Was
Wednesday, Feb. 5 vs. Toronto Raptors
After the blowout win of the Chicago Bulls on Monday, the Kings welcomed in the Toronto Raptors. Rudy Gay was able to play well against his old team and helped the Kings win 109-101. The big difference in the game was the second quarter when the Kings scored 37 points after a 30-point first quarter for Sacramento. The Raptors tried to come back in the second half but the Kings hit 41-of-51 free throws while the Raptors only had 24 attempts from the line. Lastly, in DeMarcus Cousins‘ second game back, he was great with 25 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Cousins, Gay and Isaiah Thomas all had more than 20 points and seem to be playing well together.
Friday, Feb. 7 at Boston Celtics
After a nice little two-game win streak at home, the Kings started a four-game road trip against the Boston Celtics. The Kings have struggled on the road and this game was not any different as the Kings struggled to score and lost 99-89. Rudy Gay and Marcus Thornton where both out (Gay with an illness, Thornton with an injury) and their replacements did not fare well, scoring only 16 points between them. The lone bright spot was Cousins with 31 points and 16 rebounds. Thomas did score 24 points but it was on 9-for-23 shooting. As a team the Kings shot 37 percent from the field and only hit five 3s. Needless to say this was not the start the Kings were looking for on this road trip.
Sunday, Feb. 9 at Washington Wizards
After only scoring 89 points on Friday, the Kings only managed 84 points against the Wizards in a 93-84 loss. This game was by far the worst game of Rudy Gay’s tenure with the Kings as he only scored five points in 32 minutes. Cousins was off his game as well with only 14 points on 16 shots. The Kings shot 35 percent from the field and were 2-for-11 from downtown. With two more road games coming up this week the Kings need to find a way to win at least one of the games to avoid going 0-4.
The Week Ahead
The Kings finish up the four-game road trip in Cleveland and then in New York on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cavaliers and Knicks are struggling more than the Kings, because they both had expectation to make the playoffs in the East. Then this weekend is All-Star Weekend, and Kings fans can look forward to the Slam Dunk competition as Ben McLemore will be participating. It will be fun to see him put on a show with the other contestants, for the first time in years there are actual All-Stars in the competition. However, for my money I believe that McLemore will put on a show and it will help him build confidence as the Kings head into the second half of the season.
