Best of the Worst

These players recorded the lowest player efficiency ratings of the week while averaging at least 25 minutes a game … mostly minutes devoid of anything resembling value to their team. Remember that the average PER is 15.

1. Trey Burke, Utah Jazz (minus-0.87 PER)
Not only does Burke not make the Best of the Week rookie list, he was—statistically, anyway—the worst qualified player in the entire NBA last week, so congratu … wait, never mind. Burke averaged six points, 4.7 assists and 3.7 rebounds while shooting 21.6 percent overall and 13.3 percent from 3-point range. He made up for it with his lack of aggressive play, not going to the foul line once in three games.

2. Marcus Thornton, Sacramento Kings (3.66 PER)
This is the Thornton we’re used to, as opposed to the guy who put up 42 points on the Pacers a couple of weeks ago. Thornton averaged 5.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 28.6 percent shooting, 33.3 percent from long range.

3. Matt Barnes, Los Angeles Clippers (3.95 PER)
Barnes was not splendid last week, averaging 5.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists while shooting 33.3 percent overall and 20 percent from the land of 3. He did only go 3-for-6 from the free-throw stripe, so there’s that.
