Woodson Rips J.R.: Coach Mike Woodson sounds like a guy getting tired of J.R. Smith’s act. On ESPN New York 98.7 FM’s “The Stephen A. Smith and Ryan Ruocco Show,” Woodson called Smith’s recent shoelace stunts “unprofessional” and “unacceptable.” Woodson has long been one of Smith’s most staunch defenders, but said Smith has been “unprofessional about how he’s approached this whole thing. Something’s gotta be done. It has to stop. I’ll address it [Thursday] when I see him and then we’ll go from there.” Smith was fined $50,000 Wednesday by the NBA for what was called “recurring instances of unsportsmanlike conduct” after he untied, or jokingly attempted to untie, an opponent’s shoe in each of New York’s last two games.
