No. 4: Joel Embiid, Kansas, F/C
Joel Embiid has drawn some lofty comparisons in recent weeks. The most notable was the one comparing him to the great Hakeem Olajuwon. And while I don’t think he has that ceiling, it certainly is high. He can do everything. Silky post moves on the block; a serviceable jumpshot, terrific rim-runner.
He’s a franchise-altering big man for anyone.
There’s only one problem: Philadelphia already has Nerlens Noel. And while it isn’t as much of a problem as you’d think, it might just sway them into taking some wing players first. However, if Wiggins and Parker are off the board, don’t be surprised to see Philadelphia try and create the twin towers at the Wells Fargo Centre.
Brett Brown and his coaching staff are trying to re-structure Nerlens Noel’s entire offensive game, so perhaps by the time the draft swings around, he might be in a position to try and play at the 4. He has the defensive quickness and length to play there.
