The long-term upside is too much to turn down, at the moment. Sure, other players might be putting up better numbers in college at this moment in time, but Wiggins shows flashes that sets him apart from any of the other freshmen. Take 2003 for example, Carmelo Anthony might have been a better player going into the draft than LeBron James — he was more polished, had a better jump shot — but LeBron James was a once-in-a-generation athletic freak. Andrew Wiggins is a hyper-athletic freak.
In transition, there’s no one better in the college scene. He does things that a lot of NBA players wouldn’t be able to. We’ve also seen some clutch plays from Wiggins, like the step-back jump shot against Duke with less than two minutes to play.
It’s going to take something special to knock the Canadian from here.
