After a somewhat surprising start, the Philadelphia 76ers have crashed back to reality with a string of losses — the last of which came against a Toronto Raptors team that just traded away polarizing small forward Rudy Gay.
The memo this season is to be as bad as possible, in order to maximize the opportunity to get one of the coveted freshmen coming out of college at the end of the season. As it stands, the Sixers are doing a pretty good job of that. The team is currently 7-17.
Having said that, general manager Sam Hinkie will be looking to trade some of the more veteran players in order to make the team worse in the short term, but also stockpile long-term assets such as draft picks.
