Leadership

Many of the young point guards that people believe deserve to be in the top 10 have not led their teams deep into the playoffs. Kyrie Irving, John Wall, Rickey Rubio, and Stephen Curry are in the running, but have not been able to take their teams into or deep into the playoffs. Last year, Conley averaged 17 points and 7 assists in the playoffs, helping his team reach the Western Conference Finals. In addition, with the absence of Marc Gasol, Conley has averaged 14 points and almost 11 assists per game. This play has helped the Grizzlies stay afloat with the Gasol and others being out due to injuries.

There are so many great point guards in the NBA today. However, I do believe that Mike Conley has proved himself to be in the discussion among the others. Some nights he shows he belongs in the discussion with Russell Westbrook, Damian Lillard, and others. Even more, at 26 years old he is only going to improve. As the rotation becomes clear, he should play with more shooters allowing him more room in the paint. If Conley can lead this current Grizzlies team to the playoffs and win in the playoffs it will only confirm the type of point guard he is and is becoming.
