Phoenix Suns Weekly: Against Utah Jazz, First To 112 Wins
Models Of Consistency:
Say what you want about Green, but he’s having a career year for the Suns. The key? Consistency. Mandatory Credit: Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports
Until now, Gerald Green has been known as little more than an enigmatic dunker. But so far this season, he’s showing he can be so much more than just the guy who blew out a cupcake in a dunk contest jam. Green is averaging a career-high 14.5 points per game while shooting 46 percent from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range. Those numbers aren’t terribly impressive, but Green is fourth in the entire NBA in made 3-pointers (possibly because he’s also second in the league in 3-point attempts, but let’s ignore that for a second). Green scored 13 Friday (3-for-8 from downtown) and 14 Saturday (4-for-8 from downtown). That’s consistency.
Likewise, Channing Frye has been consistently good for this surprising Suns squad. Not great, but good enough to keep Phoenix competitive. Frye had 13 points and two rebounds Friday before upping his production to 17 points and six boards the following night. Frye won’t ever be a transcendent offensive weapon, but he’s found his stroke and his conditioning again, which will help him spread opposing defenses and open the paint up for Phoenix’s quick guards.
