New Orleans Pelicans: Anthony Davis, Jrue Holiday Look Improved
By Emily Gruver
Despite a rocky 1-2 record to start the season, the New Orleans Pelicans have been a must-watch League Pass team. Their youth, athleticism, alley-oop lobs and fast-paced offense have all told the story of the Pelicans season thus far. But two players that have stuck out the most this season have been Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday, who not only have shown great chemistry between them, but are also fitting in perfectly with this type of offense and team.

Anthony Davis is poised to have a breakout year this season and has already made a statement in New Orleans’ first three regular season games thus far. On opening night against the Indiana Pacers, Davis put up a stat line of 20 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, and one steal. Versus the Orlando Magic, Davis finished with 26 points, 17 boards, an assist, three blocks and one steal. Against the Charlotte Bobcats, Davis had 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists, six blocks and six steals, both career highs. And versus the Phoenix Suns, Davis finished with 17 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks. Already for the season, he is averaging 23.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and four blocks per game. The type of season he is already having is a huge offensive leap from last year.
Observations
What I love the most about what I have seen from Davis so far this season is he is showing great variety in his scoring ability. He is getting dunks, shots in the post, as well as knocking down mid-range jumpers. He has also shown that he has improved in creating his own shot. I am seeing a brand new guy, a guy with much greater confidence in his ability to score.
Jrue Holiday

Jrue Holiday is off to a hot, fast start as well, and is running the offense smoothly. Holiday started off the regular season with a bang, finishing with 24 points, seven boards, five dimes and a steal against the Pacers. Against Orlando, Holiday put up 17 points, five assists and three steals. Versus the Bobcats, he finished with 14 points, three rebounds and eight assists. Holiday is averaging 18.3 points, six assists and 3.3 rebounds per game for the season.
Observations
Holiday has shown me that he is able to adjust very quickly to his new surroundings. He’s gelling well with his teammates and has been clicking on all cylinders with Anthony Davis. Holiday now has a true young and athletic, rising star big man that he can do a whole lot with, such as pick-and-rolls, as well as pick-and-pops.
Davis and Holiday and really benefiting each others, and widening each other’s game. The two are going to be a must-watch duo this season and for years ahead.
