Brooklyn Nets: Jay-Z Sells His Share
Rap star Shawn Corey Carter, also known by his stage name Jay-Z, has sold his partial stake in the Brooklyn Nets. His estimated .067 percent sold for $500,000 to Jason Kidd. Kidd, the current head coach of the Nets and arguably the greatest player in team history, is now a partial owner of the franchise. Doing some number crunching based off this sale of the team, the Brooklyn Nets are worth an estimated $746,268,656.70. The calculation was done based off the assumption that every .067 percent of the team sells for $500,000 dollars.
It is believed that Jay-Z had to get rid of his stake due to the growth of his sports agency Roc Nation. So far Roc Nation has signed athletes Robinson Cano and Kevin Durant. NBA rules do not permit sports agents to have any affiliation with an NBA franchise. This rule may have pressured the rap star to give up his ownership to his hometown team. There are no rules, however, about a coach having ownership of a team. While this is just a gut feeling, I expect Jay-Z to still be at the sidelines of most Brooklyn Nets games.
