It was recently reported on ESPN that the Sacramento Kings had expressed interest in free-agent big man Greg Oden. The report also said that Oden was receiving interest from the Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans.
The Heat and Spurs are long shots to land Oden. Neither team has much money to offer Oden to more than a one-year deal.
The Kings, Mavericks and Pelicans could all have the money to offer Oden a multi-year deal, which could intrigue Oden. The only thing teams will need to worry about is his knees.
If the Kings do decide to go after him, they could be in a risky situation. If the knees hold up, Oden could be a very solid big man and as your backup, could be a big plus for Sacramento. If the knees do not hold up, however, Sacramento could be in a very tough spot. However, whenever a team has a plan A, the team always has a plan B.
Sacramento’s plan B is free-agent center Timofey Mozgov. Mozgov has not seen a lot of action during his time in Denver. Last season, he averaged 8.9 minutes, 2.6 points and 2.6 rebounds per game, similar to his career averages.
Plan A could be more rewarding for the Kings, but plan B seems to be a more realistic signing.
