NBA Jersey Ads: Are They Really That Much of a Problem?

NBA jersey ads have been a source of frustration for a lot of fans since it was announced that they would start putting advertisements on jerseys starting with the 2013-14 season. While they could certainly go the wrong way with it as they have with the horrid WNBA jerseys, I just don’t see that it’s a huge deal if they do it right.

A small advertisement on NBA jerseys could not only bring in a massive influx of cash for the teams and the league but they could also make them discrete and somewhat stylish.

This is what they need to avoid.

Do you see the team name anywhere on that jersey? And no, they aren’t the Farmers.

If they have small advertisements in the upper corners of the jerseys where the NBA logo and jersey-maker logos are now, it wouldn’t be that bad. Check out this picture that shows a doctored photo that doesn’t look hideous.

Does that little patch ruin the integrity of the game? Of course not. Take a look around the arena next time you’re there and remember that the advertisements used to be just a fraction of what they are now. Has it ruined your experience in the arena? No.

People drag their feet every time there is potential change to something they love. This is no different. In a few years, we won’t even recognize they are there. Then again, if they look like the picture below, we might have to draw the line.
