Jeremy Lin, as of right now, is the man for the Houston Rockets. He’s got a very young team surrounding him and he’ll be responsible for helping all of them reach their potential.
If we look back to his resume with the New York Knicks, we can see that he fared much better when he wasn’t playing with both Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony.
As a starter, he averaged 18.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 7.7 assists and 2.0 steals per game. If he is able to keep up those figures, the people in Houston will be doing backflips.
Make no mistake about it – the Rockets aren’t going to be a contending team in 2012-13. Their roster is filled with young players (with lots of potential) and it will be very interesting to see how Kevin Martin plays next to Lin.
I think Lin is in a really good spot because the pressure would have been ten times greater in New York. Down in Houston, the expectations are less right now and he’ll be surrounded by young, hungry talent that wants to make an impression.
Would I be surprised to see the Rockets go 30-52 and miss the playoffs? No. I expect them to be closer to 38-44 but I’d be surprised if they’re able to make the playoffs. Their time will come.
