Minnesota Timberwolves: Brandon Roy Signing A Low Risk-High Reward Situation
The Minnesota Timberwolves and Brandon Roy have agreed to a two-year deal worth $10.4 million according to ESPN. Not only does this fill a big need for the Wolves but it also gives Roy another chance to play in the NBA. If Roy can regain his All-Star form when he averaged 22.6 points per game, the Wolves will be ecstatic. If he plays more like a guy with two bad knees, it really wasn’t much of a risk.
A more realistic expectation is for Roy to work his way into the rotation and give the Wolves some much needed scoring punch off the bench. This still leaves a gaping hole at the starting shooting guard spot and I’ll be the first to say I’d love for Roy to play 38 minutes a night again, but I just don’t see it.
12 points per game and some veteran leadership would please management and those numbers are fully attainable.
Roy also brings a killer instinct at the end of games. He’s unafraid of the big moment and has torn the heart out of many opposing teams over the years.
If the Wolves can pry Nicolas Batum away from Portland, that gives them a fourth quarter lineup of Ricky Rubio, Brandon Roy, Nicolas Batum, Kevin Love and Nikola Pekovic. That team could make some serious noise out West.
July 11th is the date that free agents can officially sign.
